More Poker…

May 28, 2009

Had a first “real” session today after couple days of break. Started with NLHE and had some bad luck. 1st 30 mins I didn’t get any playable hands and then when I got AA I got rivered vs J7 (set of J’s)

After that (lost $25) I did what I have done lately, I went to bit higher short PLO hi table. PLO is getting better and better for me. Had similar start, no hands, but I desided to be patienced.

After a while I got few ok hands and got action with them too. Ended up winning over $100 at the end. I knew that if I stick around long enough, I got couple of the players beat. And that just happened.

I feel really good about my playing now (knock knock), and I think that I have a shot to do well. It is only depending of myself.

Here are couple of nice hands (ie Quad Q’s)

Some more thoughts and thx Steve…

May 27, 2009

Thanks for the kind words Steve.

Like you said, we have never met, but like you, I will consider you as a friend. I think pretty much all the poker buddies in Twitter are the same. Very cool guys and for sure, we’ll sit on the same table some day to play a little poker. That might happen sooner than we think :D

For me the race was a excellent way to get back into poker. As is TPT (Twitter Poker Tour) People can really play well and you are one of the best Steve :)

I just had a very nice session with @ArisPoker as he is still on the race, I joined same table with him on micro limits. We had great fun. I think we busted 15 other players on the way and both gained over $10 at the end. We played hard against each other too and I think one of the biggest pot’s were when I semi bluffed (reraised) him when he had over pair (KK) on turn and I had nut flush draw and gut shot. I went all in (for $6) and he folded after thinking quite a while :) So we weren’t team playing, just the opposite. But it was one of the nicest poker sessions in a long time.

Maybe we should consider to play some cash games together (Twitter buddies) in low limits and teach each other as we go. I am up for that in any day. Just call me up if you want to do that.

I haven’t felt all that good in last two days and haven’t played at all, before that micro session with Ari. But I hope my back pain will ease and I can get hard into poker again.

Music…

May 26, 2009

Just got a email today, that at least one of my songs has been approved to a Hollywood movie. As it hopefully being a theme song too, I think this is the best that has happened to me out side on band scene. I am totally thrilled about the situation. Unfortunately I can’t tell what the movie is at this point, but it should come out late 2010.

Our Love/Slide/Suicide album is pretty much recorded. I am very happy about the results and I hope it does well. Being able to work with Jonathan Mover, who was one of my favourite drummers when I was learning to play. He was then on Joe Satriani’s band, who is still to date one of my all time favourite guitarists. Since Satriani Jonathan has played with pretty much every one including Elton John, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather, Shakira, Aretha Franklin to name a few.

Also working together with singer Marc Ferreira has been a pleasure. Our  compositing styles match perfectly and he is a GREAT singer. I think these songs are one of my best works ever.

I hope we can get a decent tour after the album is out this fall and we can cover Europe and USA. Though I can’t do a long tour as my back won’t allow that, so I hope we can pick the best places and hit them hard.

I haven’t been this happy in ages and I hope that the music and poker will continue run well.

Take care…

Patrick

Some thoughts

May 26, 2009

As I started this race to 250, my goal was to improve my playing and courage others to do the same. I had almost 3 years brake in poker and I sure lost the touch during that time. I have never played high limits, but I got to quite high for me before and I sure would like to get back there. Though, online poker is much much more tougher now, than it was few years ago. Of course micro limits are still home for calling stations and river hunters, but if you hop into .25/.50 NLHE game, you find that people can play the game pretty well.

What did this race give me? For sure it got me focused on the bankroll management (which was one of the goals), but even more it got me to focus when to quit. I had many 10-15 min sessions, where I doubled or tripled the buyin and I ran away. I thought, ok I got 200% win, time to quit. Maybe I could of won more, or lost everything if I continued, but that was one of my goals. When you are up, know when to quit, don’t reach for the moon and the sun, but take what you have and be happy with that.

Sure I had a lot of luck, other wise I wouldn’t be able to do this so quickly. But I think my strongest point was (which I doubt, no one else did in the race) I always followed 2-3 tables before joining in and chose the best one for me. I think that was crusial for the success.

Why? Then you don’t need to pay to learn your opponents. You know at least some of their moves before hand, you know which kind of players they are and they have absolutely no idea who you are and what you do. I think that gives me the edge in 1st 10 to 15 mins, where I always made my biggest wins. And before they even notised who I was and how I play, I was gone with their money.

Other reason to do the race was to gather the Twitter buddies together. I really love each one of the poker guys there and I truly think they are great bunch of people. I love the #TPT idea and I want to continue support that too. I hope we can have another race after we finnish this one. Maybe focusing to some other areas of the game. I think that these kinds of gatherings helps every one’s plays a lot and little competition makes it even more fun. What I would like to see more is some hands that people have played as I really enjoy seeing how other people play. I tried to email some of my hands to the other race guys, which I thought were some what good.

In last 4 weeks I have learned so much of poker, that I think I might have a chance not to destroy my bankroll in any time soon (knock knock). I know that my biggest strengths are reading opponents, but I still want to learn so much more. I really want to be up there, on a level that I might fight with the best. They are only humas too…

Thanks to every one who has been playing and supporting my journey so far. It has been truly a good fun…
